Der Gott Bhairava verkörpert Facetten von Shiva, dem Herrn des Tanzes, sowohl als Zerstörer des Bösen als auch als Hüter der Zeit. Er ist grimmig und treibt schreckliche Taten voran, doch er ist auch der göttliche Beschützer und höchste Wächter; seine Absicht entspringt reinem Mitgefühl.

In diesem Tanzfilm, getragen von einer kraftvollen und zutiefst bewegenden Musik und der einzigartigen Energie der antiken Stätte von Hampi, verkörpert die Tänzerin und Choreografin Shantala Shivalingappa die Präsenz und die unverwechselbaren Eigenschaften von Bhairava. Mit ihrer technischen Meisterschaft und ihrer raffinierten Ausdruckskraft wechselt sie zwischen Momenten präziser symbolischer Gesten und einer abstrakteren Körpersprache, die aus der mächtigen und allgegenwärtigen Persönlichkeit von Bhairava entspringt, und schafft so eine lebendige Verkörperung der Gottheit.

Bhairava evokes facets of Shiva, the Lord of Dance, as both the destroyer of evil and the guardian of time. He is fierce and drives terrible deeds, but he is also the Divine Protector and Supreme Guardian; his intention springs from pure compassion.

In this work, carried by a strong and deeply evocative musical score and by the singular energy of the ancient site of Hampi, dancer and choreographer Shantala Shivalingappa embodies the presence and distinctive qualities of Bhairava. With her technical mastery and refined expressivity, she alternates between moments of precise symbolic gestures and more abstract body language surging from the powerful and omnipresent persona of Bhairava, creating a vivid incarnation of the deity.

In „The Greater the Weight“ verbindet die Tänzerin und Choreografin Dana Michel äußerst körperbetonte Bewegungen – ein Überbleibsel ihrer früheren Ausbildung in Leichtathletik und Touch Football – mit mathematischer Präzision und poetischer Improvisation.

Das Ergebnis der Körper als Instrument einer Symphonie aus Brüchen und harmonischen Dahinfließens. Eine Reflexion über den Moment, in dem man stolpert, sei es aus Versehen oder absichtlich. Manchmal fängt man sich schnell wieder und steht auf … manchmal ist das nicht so einfach.

Poetisch und sinnlich entfaltet sich der Tanzfilm „Butte“ an vier entscheidenden Punkten des Tagesverlaufes – Sonnenaufgang, Mittag, später Nachmittag und Sonnenuntergang. Gedreht im Blood-Reservat in den Ebenen und auf dem angestammten Land im Süden von Alberta, betont die Kamera instinktiv die tiefe Verbundenheit des Tänzers und Choreografen Byron Chief-Moon mit dem Land – wogende Wellen aus Wildgras, langsam dahintreibende Wolken, Weideland, Waldlichtungen und Bäche.

Der Körper als Landschaft ist das zentrale Bild; hier werden Fleisch, Knochen und Muskeln zum Synonym für die Landschaft.

Butte / 2007

Poetic and sensual, Butte unfolds over the course of a day, marking the progression of time at four key points – sunrise, mid-day, late afternoon, and sundown. Filmed on the Blood Reserve in the plains and ancestral grounds of Southern Alberta, the camera instinctively accentuates dancer-choreographer Byron Chief-Moon’s deep connection to the land. The film captures images of nature and the connectiveness with the land – undulating waves of wild grass, the slow passage of clouds, pastoral, woodland thicket, and streams.

The body as landscape is the central image; where the flesh, bone and muscle become synonymous with the land.

Film des Jazzfest Berlin

Dream Baby Dream

Dieser 20-minütige Film entstand im Herbst 2025 inem gemeinschaftlichen Prozess mit 60 Mitgliedern der Berliner Community.

Unter der Leitung eines Teams aus Künstlern und Filmemachern verschiedener Disziplinen vereint dieser von Musik und Tanz geprägte Film Amateur- und Profikünstler, Musiker des eigens dafür engagierten transkulturellen Gemeinschaftsensembles „Moabit Imaginarium“, Kinder aus zwei Vorschulen in Berlin-Moabit, junge Darsteller des Post-Migranten-Theaters „TheaterX“ sowie ein generationsübergreifendes, internationales Team aus in Berlin ansässigen Workleitern, Choreografen, Musikern, Filmemachern und Festivalveranstaltern.

Mit den Mitteln Film, Bewegung/Tanz, Poesie und Musik entstand dieses Projekt im Rahmen eines viermonen, von Improvisation, Erkundung und Zusammenarbeit geprägten Prozesses.

Drängende Themen unserer Zeit kommen zur Sprache: Darunter sowohl die Suche nach Heimat und Zugehörigkeit als auch die vertraute Präsenz von Traum und Utopie sowie der Traumata, mim viele Mitglieder der Berliner Migrantengemeinschaft konfrontiert sind.

Das Projekt fand im Rahmen des Jazzfest Berlin 2025 statt, das in den letzten Jahren das Jazzfest Berlin für sein mutiges Programm gelobt wurde. Das Festival verbindet internationale KünstlerInnen aus den unterschiedlichen Generationen und Disziplinen mit basisorientierten, inschaftlichen und interdisziplinären Projekten innerhalb der Community.

Der Film wurde während der Community Week des Jazzfest Berlin Ende Oktober 2025 gedreht und war Teil dieser Veranstaltung. Die Dreharbeiten fanden an zahlreichen Orten in ganz Berlin statt, darunter im Museum Gropius Bau, auf kürzlich stillgelegten Flughafen Teged im Berliner Stadtteil Moabit.

Dream Baby Dream

This 20-minutes film was created in a colaborative process over the autumn of 2025 with 60 Berlin community members.

Driven by an artist and filmmaker team from an array of disciplines, this music & dance driven film features amateur and professional performers, musicians from the specially commissioned transcultural community ensemble Moabit Imaginarium, children from two maternity schools in Berlin Moabit, youth performers from the post-migrant TheaterX, and a multigenerational international team of Berlin-d workshop leaders/choreographers, musicians, film- and festival makers.

Using the tools of film, movement/dance, poetry and music, this project’s creation resultrom a four month improvisational, exploratory and collaborative process.

This experimental film addresses pressing issues of our time, including both the search for home / belonging and the familiar presence of dream/utopia also trauma that many of Berlin’s migrant community members face.

The project took place as a program of the Jazzfest Berlin 2025. In recent years, Jazzfest Berlin has received acclaim for its adventurous programming that mixes international artists from a wide array of generations and disciplines with bottom-up grasts collaborative and interdisciplinary programming within the community.

The film was shot during and was part of the Community Week of Jazzfest Berlin in late October 2025 at numerous locations across Berlin including the Gropius Bau museum, at the recently closed Tegel Airport, and in the Moabit neighborhood of Berlin.
